Charlotte Ranks as Top Destination City in U.S.

Charlotte has been ranked number 10 on the U-Haul Top 10 U.S. Destination Cities for 2016, jumping four spots from the previous ranking of 14, according to the latest U-Haul migration trends report.

It is no surprise to Charlotte residents that relocation to the city has increased tremendously in the recent years, with the economic and physical growth of the Queen City. According to the report, Charlotte saw an 8.9 percent increase in people moving to the city  throughout 2015 to become one of the top 10 busiest cities in the country for incoming U-Haul trucks.

U-Haul Destination Cities are calculated using the total number of arriving one-way U-Haul truck rentals to a city in the past calendar year. These designated “Destination Cities” do not account for departing traffic and consequently do not necessarily reflect development like U-Haul’s Growth Cities. Destination Cities reflect the volume and consistency of do-it-yourself movers coming into an area, according to Charlotte Stories article on the matter.

The Charlotte region’s climate, sports teams, job growth and more are all potential factors in the city’s new arrivals. Additionally, the increase in restaurants, breweries and other attractions are an effect of this continued growth.
