Light Rail Extension to UNCC Expected to Open in March

The long awaited LYNX Blue Line Extension has finally released an open date and will begin servicing UNC Charlotte’s campus on Friday, March 16.

Starting this week, there will be test runs from the I-485 Station to the UNC Charlotte Main Station. The test runs will stop at all stations and will mimic passenger boarding with active crossing signals. This will help students, drivers and all residents of the area prepare for what’s to come when the campus’s extension of the train officially opens.

The March 16 open date will be just in time for the NCAA basketball tournament that weekend. The 9.3 mile extension will connect uptown through NoDa, up to UNC Charlotte campus, with the full line ultimately connecting I-485 in south Charlotte to the university’s campus once completed. This will be a way for UNC Charlotte students and neighbors to easily connect with areas around uptown and south Charlotte, without worrying about driving and parking themselves.

Helen Adams Realty is invested in UNC Charlotte news and events on campus, not only to support local higher education but also because of the Helen Adams Realty Scholarship Fund. Helen Adams Realty has established a permanent endowment with UNC Charlotte that is renewable for up to four years, provided the recipient continues to demonstrate academic achievement. Recipients will be selected by the UNC Charlotte Scholarship Committee and our funds are contributed to the Crown Scholars Program, through the Honors College. If you or someone you know is interested in applying for the scholarship, see more at UNC Charlotte’s scholarship and financial aid resource page.

UNC Charlotte students and neighbors can expect the regular scheduled tests until the official open date in March. You can find more information on the LYNX Blue Line Extension online.
