This Year’s Spring Home Design Trends

If there’s a perfect time to update your home, it’s at the change of a season. Spring is the perfect in-between season to get your space ready for the upcoming warm weather and outdoor time and check in with the updated design trends. From bold paint colors to floral wallpaper and room accents, there are several exciting trends on the horizon that experts say are worth noting this spring.

Floral Designs and Wallpaper

This spring, bring warm weather and nature inside with floral wallpaper or decor. Patterned wallpaper has recently made a splash back into the home design space so take advantage of this trend and bring those springtime vibes indoor.

“Floral wallpaper has been around for years and you will continue to see the pretty pattern but with a much more modern update,” interior designer and founder of Studio Ten 25 Abbe Fenimore told Good Housekeeping. She says that floral wallpaper is a particularly good choice in smaller spaces like powder bathrooms and foyers. There are also many stick-on wallpaper options if you’re not ready to permanently commit.

Sustainable Materials

Sustainable living continues to grow in popularity as design experts expect more of society to gravitate towards eco-friendly lifestyles. Because of this, interior designers expect homeowners to use more warm, earthy elements in a space. Eco-friendly details like bamboo hardwood flooring, smart home technology, and earth-conscious lighting will also become more and more popular this year. According to Elle Decor, consumers will also start incorporating more real plants indoors rather than faux plants to achieve that earthy design.

Non-White Kitchens

For several years, white kitchens have been the glamorous and more popular choice but, according to Good Housekeeping, experts are now saying there will be a shift beyond white. There are several more neutral paint colors and textures to opt for if you’re looking for something more colorful. Homeowners are opting for painted grey or blue kitchen cabinets, a patterned backsplash, or colored hardware to stay on trend this spring.

Bold Monochromatic Color Palettes

Bold colors will become the new neutral this season. The Pantone Color of the Year 2020 is a classic blue, meaning we’ll see an added level of blue color schemes in design trends. We are already seeing navy blue being incorporated in home design in our firm’s listings whether that be wall or cabinet paint in the kitchen, dining room, or powder room.

Fun Bathroom Design

An easy space to play with fun design is a powder room or secondary bathroom. The room’s small size makes it a great place to play with pops of bright color and printed wallpaper. Designers at Home Bunch are also expecting bold painted cabinets or raw wood cabinets to become more popular in places like bathrooms. The balance of warm wooden cabinets and brightly painted elements helps add some interest to the space, moving homeowners away from all-white bathrooms.
