A big part of Helen Adams Realty’s culture is rooted in serving and giving back to the community. A natural fit for this is investing in local education, and what better time to do it than during this back-to-school season? The firm has partnered with Classroom Central to help support local schools, teachers, and families and equip them for a successful year ahead.
We invite our friends, neighbors, family, and clients to donate as they are able and find more information linked here. This year’s school supply drive is set up virtually, allowing people to donate on the website through monetary or gift donations. The school supply drive will run through Wednesday, August 25.
“This past school year was an extremely difficult year for families and educators as a result of the pandemic,” said Cara Shields, Broker-in-Charge at our Randolph Road office. “We believe it is important to give back locally and our schools are the heart of our community. We are thrilled to be able to support Classroom Central again this year and to help prepare local students with the supplies they need to succeed in the upcoming school year.”
Classroom Central serves more than 127,000 students and their teachers across 6 school districts in nearly 200 schools. Their mission is to equip students to effectively learn by collecting and distributing free school supplies to their teachers. Equipping all local students with all of the basic tools they need to succeed will require over 1,000,000 supplies.
Our community’s support is more crucial this year to help students overcome pandemic learning loss. CMS reports that 32% of its students failed at least one course, and recent studies show some students have lost over a year of learning due to COVID-19. Unfortunately, 54% of CMS students live below the poverty line, which means 1 in every 2 students will be unequipped to catch up to their peers, let alone learn new lessons.
Investing in education around the Charlotte area is an integral part of Helen Adams Realty’s culture as the company is cognizant of the power of education in our community. These annual school supply drives are just one way we are able to give back to students in Charlotte. In 2015, Helen Adams Realty established a permanent endowment with UNC Charlotte in its founder, Helen's, memory. Proceeds from the endowment provide merit-based scholarships to incoming freshmen from the Charlotte area and towards the community to which we feel inherently bound.
The agents and staff at Helen Adams Realty are always looking for ways to get involved and give back to the communities we serve, including this back to school opportunity. We are happy to do this by supporting local teachers and students in school supply drives as well as investing in the Helen Adams Realty Scholarship fund at UNC Charlotte.
