Living in York County gives residents the opportunity to transition from city life to country living and vice versa. The county is made up of cities and towns of all sizes with something for everyone. York County is located in north central South Carolina, along the North Carolina border and is the southern anchor of the Charlotte Metro area. Its natural boundaries are the Broad River on the west and the Catawba River on the east. All of York County is within the piedmont region. Although heavily wooded in many rural areas and retaining a predominantly rural character in its western sector, York County is part of the greater Charlotte metropolitan region and includes Rock Hill, the county’s largest city, as well as the smaller cities of Tega Cay and York and the smaller towns of Clover, Fort Mill, Hickory Grove, McConnells, Sharon, and Lake Wylie.

The western side of York County tends to cater to slower paced living and a simpler way of life. On the other side of the county, the eastern towns and cities provide more of the hustle and bustle of a big city. Both options are available for York County residents while only being a short drive from the fast-paced metropolitan of Charlotte.

York County has four school districts with options for charter and private schools as well as higher education. The county sits 30 minutes away from Charlotte Douglas International Airport, providing easy access to the international travel hub.

The economic development in York County grows, in part of Charlotte’s increasing popularity and growth. Living in York County is an easy commute to the working world of Charlotte and the county is home to several business parks and manufacturers itself. Corporate headquarters, health care institutions, financial service firms, and distribution companies keep the economy of York County bustling.

By calling York County home, you are able to enjoy the urban amenities of the Charlotte metropolitan but still relish in the slow moving, small town, country lifestyle.
