Design Tips to Spruce Up Your Entrance This Summer

When it comes to your front door, we believe every home is capable of a welcoming embrace to all visitors - friends, family, or even potential new owners! Whether you’re working with a stately front entrance or quaint set of steps, we’re sharing some of our favorite design tips and tricks to make your front porch both inviting and functional.

Splash of Color

Incorporating a splash of color is a fun way to modernize dated wood flooring and give your porch a playful personality. We also love what an airy shade of ceiling paint can do to brighten your space, bringing your porch to life all year long.

Natural Elements

There’s something aesthetically pleasing about weaving indoor elements with the outdoors. Creating a connected space will allow your sense of “home” to extend from the inside out. Pairing neutral textures found in woven baskets, jute, and handwoven rugs with natural greenery, like ferns and potted succulents, is a simple way to achieve this concept without the hassle of refinishing or redesigning any major components.

Wispy Neutrals

Another easy approach to refreshing your entrance is integrating crisp neutrals - think milky whites, soft grays, misty blues and sandy tones. This could mean painting your existing furniture and planters a lighter shade, incorporating light cushions, or even creating a whimsical feel with sheer curtains. Consider seasonal cushions and curtains to switch out depending on the time of year. This is a great way to refresh your existing decor to feel more open and inviting!

Cozy Floor Seating

While floor pillows make for a fun addition to any porch, they’re especially ideal for smaller porches with limited space. This way, your seating can be stacked and stored easily while creating a cozy outdoor oasis.

Pro tip: Many vintage or second hand pillow covers are often sold without inserts - an easy way to solve this is by filling yours with old tshirts, blankets or whatever you can find! This way, they’re both sturdy and sustainable.

Styled Steps

If your front porch is mainly steps or a stoop, you can never go wrong with adding simple planters and potted plants/herbs to give your entrance some life! Similarly, adding a live eucalyptus wreath to your door will immediately welcome your guests with a soothing, refreshing scent.

Pro tip: Basil, rosemary and thyme are our favorite herbs that will magically withstand the summer heat!

Intentional Dining

Nothing says “welcome” like a set table, so why not carry the invitation outdoors? Cultivating a space for shared meals, morning coffee, and evening cocktails with friends and family is one of the best parts of summer! It’s also a great selling point as most buyers appreciate seeing how you’ve nestled into your home and maximized its fullest potential.

Subtly transitioning your front porch to a place where you and others can enjoy is one of our favorite summertime projects! Or, if you’re prepping your home for the market, implementing simple design tricks can both inspire and attract the right buyer.

In the meantime, let us know how we can assist with your buying or selling needs - we’re happy to match you up with one of our experienced professionals.
