IntroLend Monthly Mortgage Outlook | March 2023

Investors have begun coming to terms with what the Fed has been saying regarding the need for continued rate hikes into spring and summer. As a result, we’ve seen rates start to climb again. There is a growing sentiment that we will see a 50bp increase to the fed funds rate at their next meeting, up from a widely agreed upon 25bps previously.

Further uncertainty grew with the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank in one of the largest banking meltdowns in history. While the FDIC swooped in remarkably quickly to ensure depositors were covered, the collapse has rippled its way through the rest of the market. It is unknown how this unexpected turn of events will affect the Fed’s planned rate hikes.

While this uncertainty may give potential buyers pause, it’s important to remember the real estate market in the Charlotte metro area is strong and it’s still a great time to buy.
