River’s Edge Craft Dinner

January 5, 6:30-9:30 p.m., U.S. National Whitewater Center

Spend a night at the Whitewater Center and enjoy a five-course dinner created by Executive Chef Michael Rayfield with a 6 oz. beer pairing for each course. Kendra Gives Back to Lily Pad Haven: Human Trafficking Awareness Day

January 11 is Human Trafficking Awareness Day, so join Kendra Scott at Southpark and Lily Pad Haven to support survivors of human trafficking. On the evening of January 11, all sales through Kendra Scott Southpark will go to Lily Pad Haven to continue to provide housing to human trafficking survivors.

The Phantom of the Opera

January 17 – 28, Belk Theater at Blumenthal Performing Arts Center

The classic Andrew Lloyd Webber production of The Phantom of the Opera returns to Charlotte this month, “bigger and better than ever before” according to critics. The cast and orchestra of 52 make this Phantom tour one of the largest productions now on tour. Check the Blumenthal Arts website for the specific schedule.

Celebrity athletes join exclusive guests as Dream on 3 honors the Dream Kids and helps fund the organization’s mission. The proceeds from the night’s event provide the means to make sports dreams come true for deserving kids and families.

2018 Urban Roots Symposium

January 27, UNC Charlotte Botanical Gardens

For over 50 years, the UNC Charlotte Botanical Gardens has been a main resource for botanical and horticultural information in the Charlotte area. This year the Gardens have brought together a group of speakers who are deeply invested in making our environment a better place for both people and plants. This year’s seminar will examine topics for the urban and suburban environment, including nurturing children’s introduction to nature, cultivating fungi in an environmentally friendly fashion, and contributing in the community gardens.
