Weekend Getaways Outside of Charlotte

Are you looking for a quick escape from the hustle and bustle of the Queen City? If so, we’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite weekend destinations within three and a half hours of Charlotte. Whether you're looking to relax on a beach, explore a new city, or reconnect with nature, there are plenty of destinations to choose from. 

 

Lake Lure, NC

Located in western North Carolina and known for its beautiful lake and stunning mountain scenery is Lake Lure. A short drive (1 hour and 45 minutes) from Charlotte, visitors can expect to spend their days relaxing on the lake, hiking Chimney Rock, or browsing the charming shops and restaurants. Offering activities such as hiking, boating, swimming, and more, Lake Lure is a top destination for anyone who loves spending time outdoors.

 

Greenville, SC

In Upstate South Carolina, you can find the city of Greenville. Known for its Southern charm and thriving downtown area, Greenville is only one hour and 45 minutes from Charlotte and boasts beautiful parks and gardens, a thriving arts and cultural scene, and plenty of opportunities for hiking, biking, and water sports. Greenville offers a wonderful blend of natural beauty, and cultural richness, making it an attractive destination for all.

 

Asheville, NC

Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Asheville is a popular destination just two hours west of Charlotte. This eclectic city is known for its vibrant arts scene, craft breweries, and stunning mountain views, while also being home to many cultural landmarks such as the historical Biltmore Estate, the Asheville Art Museum, and the Thomas Wolfe Memorial. The easily accessible downtown area is a hub for independent shops, restaurants, and live music venues, making this city a spot for art lovers, foodies, and history buffs alike.

 

Brevard, NC

Two hours and 20 minutes outside of Charlotte is Brevard, NC. Known for its beautiful natural scenery, including forests, waterfalls, and the nearby Pisgah National Forest, Brevard is also home to the Brevard Music Center, which hosts a summer music festival. The town offers a vibrant downtown area with shops, galleries, and restaurants.

 

Tallulah Falls, GA

Tallulah Falls is a small town located in the northeastern part of Georgia and is a mere three hours from Charlotte. As its name suggests, this town is known for its beautiful natural scenery, including the Tallulah Gorge State Park which features hiking trails, waterfalls, and stunning views of the gorge. The town also offers recreational activities such as fishing, kayaking, and rock climbing, and if you're interested in history, you can visit the Tallulah Falls Railroad Museum which showcases the town's past as a railway hub.

 

Roanoke, VA

Three hours and 15 minutes from Charlotte, NC is Roanoke, Virginia. Known for its scenic beauty, outdoor recreation opportunities, and vibrant arts and culture scene, this town is home to several museums, art galleries, and festivals throughout the year. Surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains, Roanoke offers plenty of opportunities for hiking, biking, and other outdoor activities.

 

Sullivan’s Island, SC

Known for its beautiful beaches, historic landmarks, and delicious seafood restaurants is Sullivan’s Island, SC. Three hours and 20 minutes from Charlotte, this stunning island has a rich history dating back to the Revolutionary War and is home to the Fort Moultrie National Monument. This island is also a popular destination for water activities such as fishing, kayaking, and paddleboarding.

 

Weekend getaways are a great way to escape and recharge without going too far. Whether you prefer a visit, an adventurous retreat, or a cultural city break, there are plenty of options for every type of traveler, all within three and a half hours of Charlotte. Safe travels!
